Full-sized Silver Appleyard ducks seem to be rather rare. The first ducks I hatched of this breed were not very well coloured or marked, but I bred them and selected the best offspring and ate the rest, and then sold as pets or gave away to friends the poorer-quality adults. The type of the ducks has much improved, which just goes to show that you can work with what’s available and improve when working with a rare breed, rather than discarding everything that’s not perfect and harming the gene pool in an attempt to get better type.
